New Website!

Dumb Stuff Taken Seriously has a new home!

So yeah, I realize we only just got this site up and running, so why move? Well, as it turns out, the most difficult thing about making a podcast is figuring out how to host the files. We started out on Sound Cloud, but quickly bumped up against our upload limit there, which was the genesis of this website. But Blogger doesn't host audio files, so I opted to just host those files on the server for my website (plug plug plug) until we felt comfortable shelling out the cash for a Soundcloud Double-Pro account.

But then, last night, I learned that the way we were serving the files was actually super duper against the terms of service of my hosting plan. It seemed prudent not to let the issue persist. So I've spent the last day or so setting up a new website. One with its own domain name, and a much better general setup.

So yeah, it's a bit of a hassle. But now the website is better! So there's that, yeah?

Episode 12 - Hong Kong and Final Fantasy 6

We had two weeks of silence and it's all Tzvi's fault, I swear. I was all "c'mon, lets record." and he was like "no wai man, it's way too Hong Kong up in this bitch for that."

Yeah.

So Tzvi is in Hong Kong right now, so we talk a bit about that. Then, spurred on by the screenshots below, we talk about the majesty of Final Fantasy 6; and lament the tragedy that is its Steam release.

Episode 11 - eSports and Board Games

Tzvi has betrayed his nerd roots by embracing sports culture. Even if it is video game sports. LS, meanwhile, has retreated into the past with his growing love of games played with cardboard over games played with keyboards. An episode edited by the literal skin of my teeth, as I am probably going to be late for work in order to get it uploaded on time.

Episode 10 - Music Piracy and Fallout New Vegas

Kilovh blatantly ignores the "Dumb Stuff" mandate of our podcast by forcing LS to talk about music piracy. LS is passionate about his radical views on this subject, which makes it a little scary to talk about in a public space. Kilovh is a cruel taskmaster. Ironically, LS mostly keeps his foot out of his mouth until the second topic: Fallout New Vegas. Somehow this utterly benign topic gets a little out of hand, and LS starts shouting about people who have bad wrong fun. Hyperbole abounds in this episode. It's a weird listen, but hopefully enjoyable.

Episode 9 - Pizza and Monikers

Kilovh is back from New York, and he's got a lot to say about pizza. Dude waxes poetic about junkfood, it's nuts. Then we talk about our names, and hopefully clear up any confusion about why we both seem to have more than one. At over an hour and twenty minutes it's the longest episode we've done so far, with plenty of juicy tangents, and a lot of really dumb stuff taken way too seriously.

During the podcast Kilovh convinced me to try putting Siracha on my pizza, so I did it while I was editing.

Episode 8 - Our Unusual Educations, and Audio Comments

Tzvi and I both had uncommon primary school educations. He attended a series of private schools, while I was homeschooled. We talk briefly about our experiences, which derails into general denouncements of the American education system. Then Tzvi talks about some SciFi nonsense where internet comments are replaced with short audio clips. It's interesting stuff.

Tzvi will be traveling this week, which may prevent us from recording Episode 9 on schedule. But we'll try to make it happen.

Episode 7: Projects We've Abandoned

Tzvi and I discuss projects that we've abandoned. Ideas that we were once dedicated to that will never be fully realized. Tzvi's got a website that's good for the soul, and a half-finished novel about little Jewish boys. LS has a website without any clear focus, a tabletop game based on old Zelda titles, and a story that nobody liked.

An episode edited with a light hand. There are many more "likes" and "ums" left in than usual, but the process took a mere 5 hours. And now you can listen to the episode a mere day after it was recorded! Lucky you.

Episode 6: Mellow Talk with Metal Gear Solid and The Gord

True to his word, Nick tries to talk about something he loves this week by discussing Metal Gear Solid. In retrospect, it may have been more interesting if Tzvi was more familiar with the series. Then, Tzvi discusses how he shamelessly earned second-hand Internet points off of The Gord, and we share our memories of the old Internet classic.

A very mellow episode.
